The company, a leading developer of mission‑ and safety‑critical control and data processing systems are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support the development of next‑generation products used across defence, aerospace and autonomous platforms.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will take day‑to‑day technical leadership for a complex engineering programme, combining hands‑on technical delivery with oversight of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team. You would be closely with the Project Manager, you will be jointly responsible for delivering the programme on cost, on schedule and on quality across the full development lifecycle.

The products within this portfolio involve a blend of software, electronics and systems engineering, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys cross‑disciplinary leadership.

This role would suit someone with a background in Systems, Software or Electronics Engineering who is already leading or ready to step into leading multi‑disciplinary teams on regulated, safety‑critical programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate a multi‑disciplinary engineering team
  • Balance competing technical and project demands while meeting customer requirements
  • Prioritise workload across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Maintain a strong technical overview across software, electronics, systems and mechanical domains
  • Plan, coordinate and present at formal design reviews
  • Interface with non‑engineering support functions
  • Support customer, partner and strategic supplier engagements
  • Author and review key engineering documentation, including Engineering Development Plans and Declarations of Performance
  • Regularly report progress to senior engineering stakeholders
  • Maintain awareness of relevant products and technologies within the wider market

Required Background & Experience:

  • Degree‑qualified in an engineering or scientific discipline
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Project or technical leadership
    • Systems engineering
    • Software engineering
    • Electronics engineering
  • Proven experience delivering safety‑critical solutions in line with:
    • DO‑178
    • DO‑254
    • ARP4754
      (preferably at higher Design Assurance Levels)
  • Experience designing and testing against military environmental standards
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, agile engineering environment
  • Comfortable managing multiple project streams with differing customer and development priorities

Working & security: This role supports a classified workload, so hybrid working typically requires a average of 3 days per week onsite in Cambridge. Candidates must be eligible for BPSS clearance.
