Mechanical Maintenance Technician (Product Support Engineer) - Rail

Location: Stoke Gifford (Depot Based), Bristol
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join a depot-based engineering team in Bristol. Reporting to the Site Team Leader or Site Supervisor, you will be responsible for carrying out and supporting routine maintenance, fault finding and repairs on rail power products, ensuring all work is completed in line with approved manuals and contractual requirements.

This role suits a mechanically biased engineer with a strong focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement, and an interest in working with modern, digitally enabled maintenance systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative, scheduled and corrective maintenance activities in line with maintenance plans and technical manuals
  • Perform planned maintenance tasks in accordance with operating instructions
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs using technical drawings and fault-finding guides
  • Accurately complete all documentation relating to work carried out for both internal and customer records
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including suggesting process and maintenance improvements
  • Attend customer meetings where required to support sign-off of completed work
  • Proactively engage with health, safety, quality and environmental (HSQE) processes
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of on-site depot facilities
  • Attend local and factory-based training courses to ensure skills remain current
  • Cover work at other depots when business needs require
  • Accurately report parts usage in line with internal stock control processes
  • Use IT systems effectively, including maintenance, diagnostics and reporting tools

Candidate Profile

  • Engineering background with a mechanical bias (electrical knowledge beneficial)
  • NVQ Level 2 in Engineering or equivalent (Level 3 desirable)
  • Proven experience in maintenance, repair and overhaul environments
  • Experience with diesel engines preferred; candidates from the following backgrounds are also encouraged to apply:
    • Automotive maintenance (particularly engine or powertrain focused)
    • Aircraft maintenance
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability
  • Outstanding safety awareness
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, email)
    (Training will be provided for specialist systems and tools)
