Our client in the Defence & Security sector is looking for a skilled Prototype Technician to join their permanent team. The role involves combining electronic and mechanical assembly to create cutting-edge, bespoke products. You will bridge the gap between Engineering and Production, maintaining high-quality standards and streamlining production flow, with an ability to write SOPs if required. Reporting to the Senior Technician (Production Team Lead), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our client's business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ability to solder, crimp, undertake mechanical and cable assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610C standards
- Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions
- Carry out prototype wiring, including crimping, soldering, cable routing, and harness assembly
- Build and modify prototypes in a fast-paced R&D environment
- Interpret wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Perform rework and design changes as required during development stages
- Conduct basic inspection and testing
- Work closely with engineering teams to resolve build and design issues
Job Requirements:
- Ability to obtain UK security clearance
- Proven experience in wiring, cable assembly, or electromechanical assembly
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring schematics
- Skilled in soldering, crimping, and general bench assembly
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Good manual dexterity and practical skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Experience in prototype or R&D environments (desirable)
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards (training or certification beneficial)
- Basic electrical testing knowledge (e.g., multi-meters, continuity testing) (desirable)
