We currently have an opportunity for an Technical Design Coordinator to join our growing engineering team. This position within our civil engineering team will suit a committed and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.
With a focus on the design of High Speed rail infrastructure the will also support other Product Lines in the UK and overseas, the post-holder will be part of a growing team of UK engineers delivering projects for a diverse portfolio of UK clients.
The Technical Design Coordinator will be accountable for the design delivery of allocated civil engineering work packages, ensuring:

  • Delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the client's specifications
  • Project requirements are fully met
  • Technically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
  • Compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Advice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursued
  • Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company


Responsibilities:
Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Senior Design Coordinator will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:

  • Adopt a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.
  • Develop design deliverables (drawings, reports, specifications) in accordance with appropriate Railway Group, Network Rail Company standards and other client requirements
  • Liaise with construction teams to ensure designs are buildable and represent value for money
  • Develop and maintain hazard / risk registers for allocated design packages.
  • Liaise with wider design team to ensure consistency and quality of deliverables across all projects.
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team
  • Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations, and manage design production
  • Prepare and check technical documents and reports and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in its development
  • When required, to undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), Task Manager, Designer, Checker or Approver for all various types of civil design.
  • Competent to work unsupervised, competent to check and approve the work of others
  • Conceptual outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options.
  • Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
  • Training and development, mentoring of junior staff.
  • Client and third party liaison.
  • Develop a strong focused client relationship
  • Effective management of and response to project related correspondence
  • Assist and support the Design and Engineering Managers where required
  • Qualifications:
  • Experience managing designs within infrastructure projects
  • Degree qualified within Civil Engineering
  • Demonstrable Civil Engineering design experience in the infrastructure industry
