Our client, a prominent player in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team in Havant on an initial 6 month fixed-term contract.

The primary function of this role is to support plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing and maintaining robust manufacturing and quality processes and leading continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation. The role is pivotal in executing the organisation's strategic plan in line with regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the liaison between the Manufacturing Cell and other groups including the NPI team, customers, and suppliers for manufacturing and quality engineering issues throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Participate in New Product Introduction projects, ensuring internal and external product and process requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain robust, cost-efficient manufacturing processes consistent with Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Utilise appropriate statistical methodologies to evaluate and reduce product, people, and process variation, maintaining effective PFMEAs, Control Plans, and SOPs through systematic reviews.
  • Measure, monitor, and analyse customer and productivity metrics, leading teams to continuously improve performance and reporting data and improvement plans to site leadership and customers.
  • Solve technical process problems utilising structured approaches such as 8D, Six Sigma, and A3.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management Systems across the Manufacturing Cell.
  • Participate in and lead audits of products and processes against Quality and EHS Management System requirements.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of training related to products, production processes, and Quality and EHS Management Systems.
  • Participate in the specification, procurement, and validation of capital equipment, test rigs, tooling, gauging, and measurement equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering. A background in Hydraulics or Pneumatics would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience working in a high precision manufacturing and engineering environment.
  • Awareness of Advanced Product Quality Planning techniques such as PFMEA, Critical to Quality Characteristics, and Control Plans.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques including value stream mapping and one-piece flow.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and tools as they relate to minimising process/product variation.
  • Thorough understanding of problem-solving methodologies used in determining root cause and formulating corrective actions.
  • Competent in using hand-held measuring equipment, reading engineering drawings, and understanding geometric tolerances.
  • Proficiency in various software applications such as CAD (Pro Engineer preferred), spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, industry, and customer quality processes (e.g., EASA Parts 21G and 145, AS9100, ISO14000). Audit training would be an advantage.
  • Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional process improvement/problem-solving teams.
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information:


The role will require liaison with external parties such as customers and suppliers, and may involve travel within and beyond the UK. Flexible working hours may be required to facilitate investigations and improvements around production needs, including performing tests or inspections during shifts or weekends.

The role will also necessitate permitted access to ITAR sensitive data.
