This is an opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our client's team at the Hythe fuel storage terminal (SO45 3NR). You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving process / mechanical equipment critical to fuel handling and storage, including pumps, valves, pipework and associated systems.

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician role is key to ensuring the terminal operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. This position is hands-on mechanical maintenance in an operating terminal environment and requires proven experience maintaining process equipment (not just general mechanical fitting).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on terminal mechanical / process equipment including:
    • Transfer and circulating pumps (seal changes, bearing replacement, alignment, vibration/condition checks)
    • Valves and actuators (isolation, control, relief valve awareness, leak diagnosis, basic valve maintenance)
    • Pipework, flanges, gaskets and fittings (leak repairs, bolting practices, isolation/LOTO support)
    • Vessels and associated terminal equipment (as applicable to fuel storage operations)
  • Diagnose faults, troubleshoot breakdowns, and complete root cause analysis to prevent repeat failures.
  • Support commissioning of new mechanical equipment and minor modifications.
  • Obtain quotations for spares, repairs, and improvements from suppliers.
  • Coordinate and oversee external contractors for planned work and shutdown activities.
  • Identify reliability, availability and cost-efficiency improvements e.g. pump reliability, seal failure reduction, spares strategy.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in workshops and storage areas and ensure work packs are completed accurately.

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Proven mechanical maintenance experience on process equipment, pumps, valves and pipework systems in an industrial environment e.g. fuel terminal, COMAH site, refinery, chemical plant, power, utilities, Royal Navy fuel & ballast systems etc.
  • Time-served mechanical apprenticeship (or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work, including RAMS and permits / isolations (as applicable).
  • Safety-focused, methodical, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Full driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in oil & gas / petrochemical / terminals / broader energy sector environments.
