Our client, a specialist highway engineering consultancy delivering highway and public realm schemes, is seeking an experienced senior highways professional to join their team as Director. This role is critical in supporting the company's planned growth phase, with a focus on technical oversight, mentoring, and work-winning support within the highways sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Assurance

  • Independent review of design deliverables
  • Technical checking and quality assurance
  • Support development of design standards and procedures
  • Provide advice on complex engineering challenges
  • Reduce technical risk across projects

Mentoring & Team Development

  • Mentor and develop existing engineers
  • Provide guidance on design decisions and professional development
  • Support progression towards chartership where appropriate
  • Help develop confidence and independent decision-making within the team

Work Winning Support

  • Support preparation of tender submissions
  • Contribute technical content to bids and framework applications
  • Attend selected client meetings and interviews
  • Assist with capability statements and case studies
  • Support relationship development with local authority clients

Strategic Advice

  • Provide an experienced external perspective on growth plans
  • Identify technical service areas that could be developed further
  • Help ensure the business scales without compromising quality

Job Requirements:

  • Chartered Civil Engineer
  • Extensive experience in highway engineering and project delivery
  • Experience in local authority highways projects
  • Strong background in detailed design and quality assurance
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Technical Director, Associate Director, or Principal Engineer
  • A strong local authority network
  • Experience in tender and framework bids
  • Public realm and active travel experience
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
