Role Summary
We are seeking a motivated Analytical Laboratory Scientist to support the execution of in-house analytical studies across BAT's product portfolio. This role will utilise advanced chromatographic and instrumental techniques (e.g. HPLC/MS/MS, GC/FID) to assess product performance, safety, and compliance.
You will contribute to both product development and toxicology studies, generating high-quality analytical data across a range of product categories. This work plays a critical role in supporting regulatory requirements and substantiating consumer product safety and reduced-risk claims.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine analytical testing to support product development, toxicology, and related studies
- Generate, analyse, and report high-quality analytical data
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate sample handling and method execution
- Maintain technical documentation (SOPs, calibration records, QC data) in line with quality systems
- Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose
- Support internal audits and ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement, study design, and problem-solving initiatives
- Ensure strict confidentiality of all proprietary and technical information
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Claims, and Toxicology
About the Role
This position supports BAT's harm reduction strategy, including the evaluation of e-cigarettes, heated products, and nicotine pouches. Your work will directly contribute to enabling product innovation and supporting a competitive global pipeline.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1 year laboratory experience in an industrial or non-academic setting (e.g. pharmaceutical, contract lab, internship)
- Strong background in analytical chemistry, particularly chromatography and spectroscopic techniques
- Proven ability to generate and interpret analytical data
- Experience with data analysis tools and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under time pressure
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Degree (BSc or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
Desirable
- Hands-on experience with techniques such as GC-FID, HPLC, HPLC/MS/MS, Karl Fischer titration, or smoking engines
- Experience working within regulated or quality-controlled environments
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
