Job title: Product Development Engineer (Electronic Technology)
Location: Glascoed, Monmouthshire (onsite)
Working pattern: 37 hrs Mon-Thu (Fridays off) | 07:15-17:00 (some flexibility)
Rate: £28.47/hour PAYE or £38.25/hour Umbrella
Clearance: BPSS only
The role
We're supporting a leading organisation within the Defence & Security sector who are looking for a Product Development Engineer to join their Electronic Technology team. This is a hands-on contract role focused on new technology development feeding into novel product lines, with occasional support to existing products.
You'll work independently on challenging engineering activities, producing prototype designs, organising trials, and reporting outcomes clearly to engineering and local senior management.
Key responsibilities
- Define and analyse early product and testbed concepts against business requirements
- Produce prototype test vehicle designs (working with Senior CAD Designers as needed)
- Build multi-domain physics models to assess system performance (early investigations)
- Specify, risk assess, run and report trials (from bench tests through to live demonstrations)
- Provide technical support and guidance across functions
- Support lifecycle management activities and contribute to project planning/direction
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers
- Maintain high standards for safety, health and environmental compliance during trial activity
Skills, experience and qualifications
- Degree (or time-served apprenticeship) with electronic design and test elements, or equivalent experience
- Proven engineering experience in an industrial environment
- CAD experience (ideally Siemens NX)
- Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation (trial activities)
- Familiarity with lifecycle management processes
- Understanding of trials safety documentation / safety data packs
- Good general IT skills; ideally experience with MATLAB plus strong report writing
