SUMMARY:

This Engineer II role will be supporting our client in Power Distribution System Planning and Grid Analytics Group serving the electric utility industry.

This engineering group helps clients with grid modernisation efforts, grid analytics, electric system planning
renewable energy and battery storage integration, among other things.

In this role you will:

  • Be using your technical expertise and engineering knowledge to solve problems for electrical distribution maintenance functions and system operations. This will be done under limited supervision of senior power distribution engineers and project managers.
  • Be involved in helping develop solutions and customer deliverable in the form of the technical reports and circuit models that help customers in the reliable and economic operation of, and modernisation of, their electric distribution systems.
  • Grow your knowledge in battery energy storage, electrical distribution system planning and renewable generation systems.


  • Candidates will be required to develop skills within the following software packages including but not limited to-
    • CYME
    • ETAP
    • Milsoft
    • Synergi
    • PSCAD
    • PSSE
    • EKM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Under limited supervision in the area of power delivery and grid analysis, the candidate will provide the following)

  • Engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  • Thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Continuous improvement of job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Should be able to maintain electrical circuit models and data files.
  • Monitor deliverables, schedules, and present solutions to the client.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Required A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or University in Engineering.
  • Required Engineering Degree awarded from a College of University that is accredited by ABET.
  • Experience should be between 3-5 years as an Engineer within the electrical industry in the power delivery field.

PREFERRED:

  • Candidates for this position should have the concepts and some working knowledge with electric utility industry trends including but not limited to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) as well as Smart Grid technologies and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) like solar power.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) license or Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management.
  • Traditional and non-traditional distribution system planning.
  • Familiar with the circuit analysis and protection-coordination.
  • DER (Distributed Energy Resources) interconnection studies.
  • Understanding of the distribution controls and circuit devices.
  • Basic understanding of Distribution Substation equipment and controls.
  • Fundamentals of Transmission system operations.
  • Understanding of Electrical Energy Delivery Business
  • Knowledge of some programming language to leverage power system analysis software.
  • Python and R knowledge is a plus.
