Job description

The Job

You will be heading up the mobile apps development team you will be directly responsible for the development of the mobile apps.

You will be managing a team of 5-10 app developers, and you will take wireframes, visual designs and new feature proposals and make them a reality. Running the development process, you will hold daily meetings with the developers and collaborate closely with our in-house software QA team. Being an advocate of agile methodologies, you will assist the team in creating user stories and breaking the work down into manageable work units, always with an eye on quality and ensuring app releases meet the tight schedule of new product releases.

With a technical background preferably in either native Android or iOS development you will be able to facilitate code reviews, advise on best practice and have a proactive approach to code quality and testability.

The Main Responsibilities

• Managing a team of native Android and iOS app developers. Including daily group stand-up meetings and 1:1 guidance.
• Collaborating with business stakeholders and UX designers to distil ideas into concrete deliverables.
• Working with development team to define technical solutions to engineering problems.
• Using Jira to refine the team workload and plan releases.
• Working with the Head of Software Development to define app development roadmap.
• Working with the Head of Software Development and the Software QA team to define the release schedule.
• Working with third party developers who might be working on UX design, programming tasks or other technical domains that have an impact on app design.
• Staff appraisals and recruitment.
• Ideally with a programming background you will engage in code review and troubleshooting complex issues.
• Liaise with the customer support team to help identify customer issues and improve the overall user experience.

Required experience

• Degree qualified in a software design related discipline and/or a significant amount of relevant experience developing and managing mobile apps.
• Ideally have a technical background developing or managing mobile apps projects preferably using native iOS or Android technologies.
• Experience managing Agile teams of developers, sometimes offshore where English might not be a native language.
• Taking complex requirements and breaking them down into manageable work items should be second nature.
• Good appreciation of UI/UX and the ability to make decisions based on current designs and what is best for the user.
• Ability to generate wireframes to communicate your ideas would be beneficial.
• You should be a proficient Jira user.
• A proactive approach to documenting projects and project reporting. We use Atlassian Confluence.
