As a Domain Expert, Acoustics / Principal Transducer Engineer you will work as part of a team. This includes sonar analysts and transducer designers who use their specialist knowledge to design the functionality that underpins the performance of Ultra's acoustic products.

The domain specialism department plays a role in both the design of the company's current systems but also plays a large role in researching new techniques and sensors for future products.

As the Domain Expert, Acoustics / Principal Transducer Engineer you will work alongside the systems, analyst, electrical and mechanical teams to design acoustic sensors based on transduction materials such as piezo-electric material for current and future products. Naturally, you would need to be able to help interpret customer and system requirements to derive specifications for transducers, which they will then work with the other departments to design and test suitable sensors. Activities will include requirements derivation, design, simulation, prototyping, verification and validation.

As the Domain Expert, Acoustics / Principal Transducer Engineer within the company you will be expected to provide guidance and advice to junior members of staff and graduates as well as being able to support and substantiate their design solutions to a technical audience.

Domain Expert, Acoustics / Principal Transducer Engineer will be responsible for the following:

• To interpret customer and system performance requirements to generate specifications for transducers
• Develop transducer designs that meet the performance, physical properties and cost requirements
• Simulate transducer performance in appropriate underwater environments
• Work with and assist other engineering disciplines in the implementation of the transducer design.
• Develop and assist in the execution of robust validation and verification of sensor designs
• Develop broad knowledge of the company's transducer capabilities
• Assist in developing the transducer aspects of technical specifications for programme bids.
• Produce high quality design documentation to satisfy customer needs and educate others.
• Contribute to the transducer roadmaps and R&D development of new transduction material sensors.
• Represent the business as a transducer expert in meetings (internal and external) A variety of tools are used in the design of transducers, experience in some of these will help a candidate's application although training will be provided where necessary.

Desirable:

• Finite element analysis e.g. COMSOL
• Matlab
• Orcaflex
• Spice

• Inventor or other CAD experience
