Job description

Communications represents another sub-discipline within Electronics and as its name suggests focused on inter-connectivity at a high level. Often originating from telecoms, IT or Radio background these engineers typically specialise into one of the following Systems whilst maintaining a strong knowledge of the whole sub-discipline:
- Wire free Communications
- Digital / IP Telephony
- Plain Old Telephone Systems (POTS)
- Visual Surveillance
- Distributed Media Systems
- Broadcast Audio
- Fibre Optics
Communications has very close ties to the Software, Computing and IT disciplines and knowledge in either will prove valuable in the other should you be interested.
Electronics/Communications are involved across the product lifecycle:
- Concept design and development
- Design maturity and engineering outputs for procurement, manufacturing and build
- Factory Acceptance Tests
- System Integration
- Build support, supplier liaison and defect resolution
- Dockside Test Organisation support, input to test paths and authorisation groups
- Sea-trials
- In-service/Through Life support with the customer and 3rd party maintenance operations
- Upgrades and modifications
- Application of Learning from Experience across the submarines enterprise
Key internal relationships for Electronics/Communications engineering includes but is not limited to:
- Electrical Stage 2/3 Designers
- Test and Commissioning
All Platform and Combat systems teams requiring data communications, measurement and electronic control etc
