Job description

We are recruiting four Skilled Panel Assembly Fitters to join our Aerospace client on a Contract basis in the A350 area.

Working as part of an established team within the A350 department, this role requires skill and involves the disassembly, repair, and assembly of aircraft components and sub-assemblies. As a Skilled Operator, you will have an increased level of self-management, empowerment, and a disciplined outlook in your everyday work. Skilled status also entails responsibilities for problem-solving, team collaboration, and a determination to succeed with the business.

Role Specifics:

  • Report directly to the section Shop Floor Manager, collaborate within a team, and work with functional specialists to ensure production requirements are met safely, on time, and to customer specifications.
  • Read and follow work instructions, specifications, and part drawings (accessed via PC).
  • Read and interpret engineering data, technical drawings, specifications, repair schemes, Manufacturing Procedures (MPs), and other approved maintenance data.
  • Accurately complete work route cards to maintain component traceability.
  • Measure and mark out materials for close tolerance hand fitting processes.
  • Perform precision drilling, countersink, reaming, and finishing of holes in aircraft structure assemblies.
  • Apply assembly techniques, including riveting, mechanical fasteners, and other bonding processes.
  • Utilise sealing and jointing techniques for environmental protection and the painting and alocrome of aircraft structures.
  • Apply bush and bearing installation.
  • Apply part marks on aircraft assemblies/sub-assemblies.
  • Assemble pipework for various types of aircraft.
  • Conduct alignment, pressure, electrical bonding testing, and functional testing.

Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering or Manufacturing, or Time-served apprenticeship in allied trades.
  • Numeracy, literacy, and IT skills, and the ability to read and understand technical documentation, including via computer/IT equipment.
  • Good planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Working understanding of the 5 S and lean principles.
  • Strong work ethic supported by a positive attitude to succeed.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the currency and competency of the key skill codes required within the department.
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy in task requirements.
  • Proven ability to actively participate in a team culture.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

Previous experience in the manufacture of complex metallic and composite structures.

Shift work required - Early shift - 6am to 2.15pm and 6am to 12pm on a Friday

There are certain aspects of this role that require mechanical/manual lifting of parts, so some lifting will be necessary.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role.
