Job description

RF Test Engineer

Location: Fareham

Salary £25,000 - £35,000

Our client, a leading manufacturing and engineering company, is currently seeking a skilled RF Test Engineer (Radar) to join their team. As an RF Test Engineer, you will be responsible for testing radars, Emergency Radio Beacons, AIS, and digital interfaces. You will also contribute to the improvement and streamlining of testing processes. This is a permanent position located in Fareham, offering a competitive salary package.

Responsibilities and Authority:

• Testing radars and Emergency Radio Beacons to COSPAS SARSAT / RTCM / IEC / EN test standards.
• Testing AIS and other marine products using protocol and digital interface techniques.
• Development of new services, test methods, and departmental documentation.
• Recording test results and producing test reports, following company quality procedures.
• Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with regulatory requirements or defined test plans.
• Liaising with project managers and customers to provide technical support and ensure accuracy and timely completion of work.

Essential Criteria:

• Educated to Level 3 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience using RF test equipment such as spectrum/network analyser, oscilloscope, signal generator, RF power meter, etc.
• Good understanding of analogue/digital communications technologies and networks, including RS232.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow concise processes.
• Willingness to work offsite on an ad hoc basis.
• Desire to learn and aptitude for personal development.
• Proficient in data manipulation and analysis using Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet deadlines.
• Good interpersonal skills and customer focus.
• IT proficient with the ability to use bespoke software and Microsoft packages.

Desirable:

• Understanding of COSPAS SARSAT / RTCM / IEC / EN standards.
• Full driving license.
• Experience programming in VB.net.
• Experience performing RF accredited testing.
• Knowledge of Emergency Beacon functionality and certification requirements.
