Spatial Planner - Midlands - Upto £49k
Our client, a leading National Highways organisation, is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Spatial Planner to join their team in the Midlands region. In this role, you will be responsible for playing an active and responsive role in the planning system, ensuring that new developments are well located, planned for, and the travel demands they create are managed and sustainable for the strategic road network. This is a permanent position with a mix of home and office working.
Your new role
You will work closely with local partners to understand and address the transport impact of spatial planning aspirations and collaborate with developers to identify necessary works on the network to mitigate the transport impact created. Additionally, your responsibilities will include cooperating with Local Planning Authorities and relevant stakeholders in the development of local plans and strategic growth plans, discharging statutory responsibilities within the planning process, applying specialist knowledge to evaluate the potential impact of planning applications on the Strategic Road Network, and managing ongoing liaison with key external stakeholders. You will also attend public examinations, appeals, and public inquiries, representing the region and identifying funding opportunities for network improvements in support of economic growth.
What you'll be leading on
- Cooperating with Local Planning Authorities and relevant stakeholders in the development of local plans and strategic growth plans.
- Discharging statutory responsibilities within the planning process.
- Evaluating the potential impact of planning applications on the Strategic Road Network.
- Managing ongoing liaison with key external stakeholders.
- Representing the Region at public examinations, appeals, and public inquiries.
- Identifying and securing funding opportunities for network improvements.
To be successful
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of spatial planning and associated legislation.
- Proven practical understanding of infrastructure development programmes and the prioritisation of needs.
- Qualified Town Planner or Transport Planner, or equivalent professional experience (Chartership desirable).
- Experience of working with local planning and highway authorities, local enterprise partnerships.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
