Job description

VSL, a leader in the construction industry, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the company's tenders by creating work winning offers and ensuring compliance with VSL's strategy and guidance. This is a permanent position based at Becket House, VSL's central London location, with potential travel required across the UK and Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

• Record and log all tender correspondence
• Meet all proposal and estimate deadlines
• Review tender documentation and provide feasibility advice
• Prepare and submit tender queries and clarifications
• Develop bills of quantities and schedules of rates for tender applications and 1st principle estimates
• Create detailed proposals adhering to client guidelines and specifications
• Ensure estimates and offers comply with relevant legislation and industry standards
• Contribute to value engineering and alternative options during bid preparation
• Coordinate projects with the Bid Manager, preconstruction Manager, and commercial manager
• Collaborate with other departments to address client requirements in tender preparation documents
• Analyze technical, legal, and financial aspects to develop a commercial strategy
• Participate in bid negotiations
• Prepare and submit subcontract enquiries
• Review subcontract tender submissions for compliance and inclusion in the estimate
• Identify and target future business opportunities

Job Requirements:

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar discipline
• Experience in Ground Engineering/Geotech estimating
• Enthusiastic with an eye for detail
• Ability to work effectively in a team
• Good interpersonal skills
• Tactical and strategic mindset
• Profit-minded with a win-win attitude
• Good level of English and French, other languages desirable
• IT literacy including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations
