Job description


The Opportunity
Our client, a leading Defence and Security company, is seeking an Integrated Product Support Engineer to join their team in Woking. In this role, you will utilize your supportability experience to influence and advise various business functions, including engineering, project management, bid teams, services, and portfolio management. You will play a key role in promoting and implementing Integrated Product Support (IPS) activities and identifying and managing IPS risks.
Primary activities include:

  • Conducting new and in-service product and system supportability analysis.
  • Ensuring high levels of confidence in meeting internal and external customer ILS support requirements.
  • Growing the service and support function within the business, in line with the direction from the Head of Customer Support Services.
  • Providing IPS insights and inputs to portfolio managers, campaign managers, and BU leadership for future and current customer supportability requirements.
  • Supporting engineering functions in carrying out new and in-service product and system supportability analysis.
  • Keeping portfolio and project managers informed of relevant risks, issues, and progress of the IPS functions, escalating matters for resolution when necessary.


Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering the IPS service support offering across key business functions (portfolio, project management, engineering, and manufacturing) to ensure they meet whole life cost targets and project/service profitability.
  • Determining, developing, and delivering project IPS strategies, plans, and reports in conjunction with relevant service and project deliverables.
  • Working with engineering, production, and supply chain to provide product and system supportability reporting and assurance through the application of relevant ARM&T principles.
  • Owning and managing service and support IPS responses to Customer Requests for Proposal (RFP), Invitations to Tender (ITT), Statements of Work (SoW), Tender Assessments, and Contract Specifications.
  • Supporting business growth as an IPS subject matter expert for bids, partnering agreements, product development, and project IPS meetings and reviews.
  • Supporting engineering in the production of Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) generation.


Education and Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/HNC qualified in electrical or mechanical engineering or relevant experience in the Defence industry.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience contributing to bid responses, understanding customer requirements, estimating costs, and providing bid content such as ILS/IPS plans.
  • Experience in the service support of low volume, high-value products and systems in a highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of the application of through-life support standards, such as DEF STAN 00-600, 00-40, 00-42, Mil Std 217F, and KiD.
  • Experience working with customers in a matrix-managed team.
  • Good knowledge of MOD support frameworks and experience in their application as a supplier.
