Job description

The designer will collaborate with Project Manager, internal and external designers, ensuring compliance with Statutory Regulations and relevant standards for designs for all customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce Electrical Designs compliant with industry standards and CDM requirements.
  • Ensure designs adhere to relevant Codes of Practice and company standards, in conjunction with Civil Design.
  • Contribute to technical, commercial, and contractual documents for engineering procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
  • Participate in design assurance and audit processes.
  • Support and mentor team members.
  • Prepare tenders and quotations from specifications and drawings.
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Collaborate as a Team Player in a dedicated design team.
  • Liaise with operational teams for a smooth process from enquiry to connection.
  • Comply with CDM 2015 Regulations for design safety.
  • Ensure designs mitigate hazards and provide sufficient information for construction and maintenance.


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Strong electrical engineering background with at least 5 years' experience.
  • Experience with 132kV GIS switchgear at National Grid sites.
  • Competence in resolving technical power engineering issues and providing advice.
  • Ability to work in an Alliance Environment and represent the company effectively.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and safety culture.
  • Ability to work independently and identify cost-saving solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and CAD software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status with relevant experience.
  • Broad knowledge of cables and overhead lines.
