Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Process Engineer - Battery Assembly to be based at our customer location in Wolverhampton, the UK.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialised engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role

  • You will be at the forefront of developing new, technologically advanced, electric propulsion systems.
  • The PTME battery assembly team is responsible for the development and introduction of industry leading processes and facilities incorporating state of the art manufacturing technologies.
  • You will be working closely with Product Development Engineers and suppliers to ensure that Battery system designs meet world class quality and efficiency standards.
  • The role offers the exciting opportunity of periodic European & Overseas travel to work alongside technology leading suppliers.

Area of Responsibility

  • You will utilise your knowledge to develop and implement assembly and in-process test processes and facilities to deliver the safety, quality delivery and cost objectives.
  • Detailed planning, development and implementation of installation timing plans with key suppliers.
  • Ensure robust process planning including build simulations and PFMEA's.
  • Support assembly process strategy for manufacturing.
  • Feasibility of design to suit modern assembly and test requirements.
  • Assembly process & equipment verification at suppliers and at manufacturing facility.
  • Support management activities through development and monitoring of timing plans.
  • Support new model planning through development of process estimates against study requests.
  • Manage technical issues and escalate where appropriate.
  • Achieve equipment capability and availability targets.
  • Support the resolution of technical issues where appropriate.
  • Planning, developing and implementation of all written Processes for manufacturing.
  • Planning, developing and implementation of all tooling, jigs and fixtures for manufacturing.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.

Skills

  1. Previous experience of Manufacturing / Engineering processes, tools and techniques.
  2. Hands-on approach to engineering.
  3. Candidates should be self-motivated with sound Engineering, communication skills, ideally with experience within volume manufacturing.
  4. Experience of facility installation, project management, capability validation, commissioning and product launch.
  5. Ability to work within cross-functional teams and flexibility to support projects from early concepts to launch.
  6. Good IT skills and competent with MS Office Applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Project).
  7. Ability to use CAD packages to review engineering drawings and models (Catia V6 & Teamcentre etc).
  8. Ideally, educated to Degree level, HNC / HND in Manufacturing Systems or a similar engineering discipline. However, candidates with relevant experience will also be considered.
  9. Understanding of safe automated and manual manufacturing systems.
  10. Previous project management experience advantageous.
  11. Working understanding of GSPAS or similar process creation systems advantageous.
  12. Ability to problem solve technical and manufacturing issues.
  13. Highly motivated and able to work under own initiative.
