Our client are seeking an engineer with strong microwave engineering knowledge and experience in working on complex electronic systems, ideally RF-based sensor systems.
The primary focus of this role will be on the electronics design of the RF and control subsystems for laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators in later stages of the project. You will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle, including design implementation, integration and test, system trials, and product delivery.
As a part of the Leonardo Airborne Communications product development group within the Integrated Sensing & Protection line of business, you will collaborate with partner organizations, sub-contractors, and potential customers.
What you will do:
- Model proposed architectures to determine the optimal solution.
- Simulate RF designs.
- Document designs, including configuration management within the product data management tool.
- Provide support to laboratory hardware demonstrator development and test.
What we are looking for:
You must have:
- Significant hands-on experience in RF design of circuitry between DC and 30 GHz.
- Experience in the design of PLLs in the 10 to 30 GHz frequency range.
- Experience working with PCB layout personnel in an advisory capacity.
- Hands-on experience using RF test and measurement equipment to develop and debug RF circuitry up to 30 GHz.
- Ability to use RF and system modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB and Keysight ADS.
- Ability to produce concise technical reports detailing design solutions and implementation.
- Understanding and adherence to business practices such as design reviews in a high-technology defence environment.
- Degree in relevant engineering or related scientific discipline (Electronics Engineering or Physics preferred).
- Ability to make technical decisions within your own sphere of responsibility.
- Willingness to work proactively in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
It would be nice if you had:
- Knowledge/experience of digital or mixed signal design.
- Experience in system-level and sub-system integration and debug.
- Experience working in the defence electronics sector.
- Experience working with UK MOD (e.g., RAF, DSTL, DE&S).
- An understanding of the deployment of airborne military platforms, systems, and operation within the enterprise environment.
The nature of the programmes involving electronics design requires you to be capable of achieving full UK SC security clearance, and additionally, you will need the ability to access caveated information such as UK Eyes Only and ITAR.
