The role will be to develop, with Scheme Delivery Framework partners, potential schemes from a list of needs, based on priority, and take these through to Detailed Design at which point they are handed to Scheme Delivery colleagues.

The successful candidate will join a team of, currently, 10 people. The team includes Senior Engineers, Engineers, Road Safety Auditors, Regional Safety coordinator and a programme development team.

The Senior Engineer will lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification and development of improvement solutions for the asset class in scope, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards.

You will be working on developing improvement schemes such as Road Safety, Flooding & Water Quality and Environmental, working closely with Scheme Delivery Framework contractors to oversee and execute plans.

This role will be based from Maidstone, Guildford or Basingstoke offices with hybrid working.

What you'll be leading on

  • Ensuring the health and safty needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.
  • Conducting the development of early solutions for improvement schemes, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
  • Monitoring the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues. Working with the Project Manager team to ensure all financial and programme information is updated and managed in a timely manner.
  • Identifying, prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works that support the improvement of assets.
  • To develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractors for improvement work.

To be successful you'll need

  • A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and member of a relevant professional Body with appropriate experience
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network.
  • Experience in highway infrastructure design.
  • Good knowledge of CDM 2015.
