Job description


Rapidly growing specialist civil engineering contractor seeks a Quantity Surveyor to join their rail division on a contract or permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly and flexible team based in Glasgow or Warrington.

As Quantity Surveyor you will support the commercial delivery of some major civil engineering projects in the rail industry so experience in these sectors would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applications for Payment: Prepare, submit, and track applications for payment, ensuring all claims are accurate and processed promptly in line with contractual agreements.
  • Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs): Regularly conduct CVRs to monitor the project's financial status, ensuring all costs are accounted for and reconciled against budgeted projections.
  • Ensuring Contract Administration in Line with Contract T&Cs: Oversee the administration of contracts, ensuring all terms and conditions are adhered to, and that the project complies with legal and company standards.
  • Timely Submissions of Variations and Early Warnings: Manage and report any changes to the contract or potential risks promptly, minimising financial impacts and ensuring continuous project progression.
  • Manage Subcontractor Contracts: Administer contracts with subcontractors, ensuring they deliver quality work within the stipulated timelines and budget.
  • Monitor Project Costs: Keep track of all project costs, analysing variances, and reporting discrepancies to prevent budget overruns.
  • Negotiate Variations: Negotiate any necessary contract modifications with clients and subcontractors to accommodate changes in project scope or specifications.
  • Prepare Cost Estimates: Develop comprehensive cost estimates for changes within ongoing projects, providing a solid financial foundation for decision-making.

To be considered for the role of Quantity Surveyor candidates will have:

  • Experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Experience of working in a main contractor environment in either the civil engineering or rail markets
  • Ideally degree qualified in a commercial subject
