Senior Systems Assurance and Safety Engineer

Job Description
Initially, under the supervision of the Head of Engineering, the Senior Systems Assurance and Safety Engineer will participate in major Canadian infrastructures projects of the Systems Integration discipline in both design and site works supervision.
Responsibilities include:
- Know, respect and apply our philosophy and fundamental values, organizational and operating principles, standards and procedures.
- Demonstrate a range of technical capabilities with the experience of Systems Assurance and Safety Engineering and design, development of contract documents (design reports, analysis reports, calculation notes, plans, specifications, etc.).
- Perform in accordance with the quality, environmental, safety and any other requirements, in accordance with the scope, within the agreed timescales and budgeted costs, in accordance with Company's quality, environmental, safety and any other standards and procedures as well as with all applicable legal requirements.
- Understand client's requirements and assess documentation to ensure that a compliant solution is designed and/or implemented utilizing industry best practices.
- Deliver assigned tasks in accordance with the requirements and scope, within the agreed timescales and budgeted costs, in accordance with Company's quality standards and procedures and all applicable legal requirements.
- Interface, integrate and co-ordinate the design solution with other engineering disciplines.
- Apply design and cost-competitive execution techniques and develop the most cost-effective solution.
- Organize and prioritize tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Provide relevant inputs to other disciplines and functions.
- Hands on design - produce and review reports, analyses, specifications, calculations, drawings, plans, etc.
- Provide guidance to more junior engineers and to drafters.
Depending on the role in the project, responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
- Independently develop and maintain requirements management processes, Interface Management Processes, Configuration Management Processes.
- General management of the discipline and coordination/interfacing with other disciplines and with Project Management.
- Independently perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance of the technical activities of the team.
- Independently develop process to generate status and reports, metrics and documents.
- Provide relevant inputs to other teammates, disciplines and functions.
Job Requirements:
- 10 - 20 years' experience in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in LRT (preferred), Metro or Railway design projects (or any other Infrastructure projects).
- Have a view of, and perform a practical implementation of, a holistic top-down systems engineering approach that considers the System as a whole (not a collection of individual systems, or projects).
- Have experience in the application of a lifecycle approach (the entire spectrum of activity for a given system, commencing with the identification of need and extending through system design and development, construction/manufacture/installation, operational use and maintenance, system retirement and disposal).
- Desirable experience in rail/transit operations and maintenance.
- Familiarity with AREMA standards, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
- Degree in engineering (Bachelor or equivalent, as a minimum).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Ontario or Quebec is desirable.
- Ability to develop non-standard solutions.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
- Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processes.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office.
- Business fluency in English, both written and verbal. French speaking is a plus.
