Job description


Our client, a Local Authroity based in the Shropshire region, is currently seeking a Planning Policy Officer to join their team on a 3-month initial contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to work 20-24 hours per week, providing flexible working arrangements. As a Planning Policy Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing planning policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis to support the development and review of planning policies.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of policy reports, briefings, and guidance documents.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and consensus on policy objectives.
  • Undertake site visits and consultation activities to gather input and feedback.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of existing planning policies.
  • Keep abreast of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans and objectives.
  • Provide support in the preparation of planning policy documents for public consultations.

Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience in planning policy, ideally within the enviromental sector.
  • Excellent understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze data, and present findings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Good stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Proficiency in using planning policy software and tools.
  • An understanding of the historic environment would be advantageous.
