STEM Futures – A Game Plan for Career Success in STEM

Taking Careers to the Next Level with STEM Futures

A career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) doesn’t just happen – it’s built. But with shifting industry demands, a competitive job market, and a lack of accessible career guidance, getting started in STEM can feel like an uphill battle. That’s why Matchtech is stepping in with STEM Futures – a free, on-demand employability programme designed to give emerging talent the skills, confidence, and tools they need to succeed.

Closing the STEM Skills Gap

The UK is facing a major STEM skills shortage. A 2024 Engineering UK report highlights the urgency of the issue:

“We need to attract more young people from all backgrounds to create the diverse workforce needed for engineering and technology to thrive.”

With 40 years of experience recruiting into STEM industries, Matchtech has seen first-hand the challenges young professionals face: limited access to career pathways, a decline in apprenticeships, and a lack of diversity in industry. To drive change, we wanted to go beyond recruitment and create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of STEM professionals.

Introducing STEM Futures – A Career Game Plan

Through our STEM Futures programme, we’re providing young people and students with a structured, practical employability game plan. The programme features 13 short, engaging sessions (all under 30 minutes), each packed with expert-led advice and quick-fire techniques to help candidates stand out in today’s job market.

Building a Flourishing STEM Pipeline

STEM Futures is the latest in a series of strategic decisions Matchtech has made to support and sustain a thriving STEM talent pipeline, reinforcing our purpose to provide the skills needed to build a better future—one job at a time. This initiative follows the Materna Fund, a £2,500 bursary awarded to two students in the Engineering and Technology faculty at Portsmouth University to support their final year of undergraduate study. It also builds on our ongoing partnership with The Talent Tap, where we have already supported 170 students through work experience and employability workshops to prepare them for the world of work.

Through these initiatives, we continue to create meaningful opportunities that empower the next generation of STEM professionals and drive lasting industry impact.
