Job description
Our client, a leading defence and security company, is currently seeking a Test Development Engineer to join their team on a contract basis for 12 months, working primarily from Glenrothes / Livingston, Scotland. Our client operates extensively across all domains: land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace, delivering defence solutions to the UK government and international customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design of functional test equipment
- Overseeing design quality and providing leadership to junior engineers
- Documenting design specifications and conducting design reviews
- Developing robust and reliable test hardware solutions
- Collaborating with hardware and software engineers to agree system designs
- Developing test hardware, software, and procedures to validate hardware operations
- Supporting manufacturing with technical queries and issues
- Managing the lifecycle and obsolescence of test hardware
- Monitoring and reporting progress to supervisors and the development team
- Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation
- Adhering to company values, policies, and ethics codes
- Applying IPDS Processes
- Contributing to gate/design reviews and providing Test Development guidance
- Engaging appropriate SMEs to support Test Development activities
- Serving as the Test Engineering Lead for small/medium-scale programs
- Acting as a key interface to external customers and suppliers
Job Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related subject
- Experience in test software design
- Knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design
- Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation
- Experience in handing over and managing designs in production
- Strong hardware troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in MS Office products
- Good communication skills
- Eligibility for MOD Security Clearance to a minimum of SC level
Highly Desirable Skills:
- Significant test development experience in industry
- Use of Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools
- Understanding of common test architectures such as PXI/LXI
- Knowledge of measurement uncertainty application in test design
- Expertise with: NI LabVIEW, NI CVI, NI TestStand, and C#
- Design of mixed signal circuits
- Experience with high-speed serial networks
- Understanding of RF electronics
- Knowledge of power supply design
- SC clearance
