Job description
Are you a qualified civil engineering technician, experienced in the maintenance and management of bridges and other highway structures? Would you like to be part of a vibrant, ambitious, world-renowned team?
Rochester Bridge Trust is looking for a Bridge Technician to support the in-house team in the management of Rochester Bridge.
If you're an excellent communicator, with a keen eye for quality and a passion for developing and delivering a globally-recognised programme of maintenance projects, with sustainability at the core, then this role is for you!
Who we are:
The Rochester Bridge Trust is an independent, not-for-profit organisation providing free-to-use crossings across the river at Rochester, now and in perpetuity.
Our world-leading team works around the clock to plan, pay for and maintain our bridges, including the iconic Old Bridge, operating with net-zero impact and at zero cost to the community, so that everyone is free to move forward whether by foot, bike, bus or car.
We've been around since 1399 and over the centuries our charitable work has expanded to inspiring, educating and funding the next generation of civil engineering talent across the UK, and to ensuring the environment, skills and structures that make our area unique are preserved and given new life.
Key responsibilities:
You'll work with the Bridge Team to:
- Develop and deliver the annual bridge maintenance plan and a prioritised programme of maintenance projects, with a focus on carbon reduction in line with the Trust's globally-recognised Net Zero Strategy.
- Take responsibility for aspects of its delivery to the required quality and cost, including preparing, placing and managing contracts for bridge works and services.
- Assist with the administration of the Term Maintenance Contract.
Alongside this, you'll support the Trust's important work within engineering education, representing the Trust at external events and helping develop the next generation of engineering talent.
Qualifications and experience:
You should have an EngTech MICE, TIStructE or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in civil engineering plus relevant experience.
Experience in the maintenance and management of bridges and other highway structures is essential, along with a sound understanding of structural behaviour.
You should possess a knowledge of health and safety on construction sites, and be able to plan and conduct site surveys.
A knowledge of the NEC forms of contract is desirable and you must have a high standard of written and spoken English.
IT skills (MS Office) and the ability to use AutoCAD are essential.
Additional details:
Contract type: Permanent contract
Hours: Full time 36 hours per week, working days Monday to Thursday (office closed on Fridays)
Salary: £42,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Location: Rochester, Kent, UK (will consider requests to work one day a week from home once settled in)
Annual leave: 23 standard days leave in each holiday year plus all public/bank holidays.
Pension: Defined benefit pension scheme
