Job Purpose

To lead the design, assessment, and delivery of bridge and highway structures projects, ensuring safe, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions that support the local transport network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and technical approval of bridge and structural engineering projects.
  • Carry out structural assessments, inspections, and load capacity evaluations of existing bridges.
  • Prepare and review design calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Manage project delivery, including budgets, programmes, and resources.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., DMRB, Eurocodes, local authority policies).
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support asset management strategies and lifecycle planning for bridge stock.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Significant experience in bridge design, assessment, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of UK design standards (DMRB, Eurocodes).
  • Experience managing projects within a public sector or consultancy environment.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it (desirable).
