Job Purpose
To lead the design, assessment, and delivery of bridge and highway structures projects, ensuring safe, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions that support the local transport network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and technical approval of bridge and structural engineering projects.
- Carry out structural assessments, inspections, and load capacity evaluations of existing bridges.
- Prepare and review design calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Manage project delivery, including budgets, programmes, and resources.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., DMRB, Eurocodes, local authority policies).
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
- Support asset management strategies and lifecycle planning for bridge stock.
Skills & Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Significant experience in bridge design, assessment, and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards (DMRB, Eurocodes).
- Experience managing projects within a public sector or consultancy environment.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it (desirable).
