Role details:
Our client, operating within the Defence & Security sector, is seeking a Principal Electronics Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to further develop their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be the technical focal point for supporting active and future airborne communication designs, including customer and supply chain liaison. Responsibilities include:
- Design and development of mixed-technology electronic designs incorporating Microcontrollers, CPLD and/or FPGA devices interfacing with RF and analogue circuits.
- Implementation of digital interfaces such as Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, and RS422 alongside high-speed optical fibre and Ethernet interfaces.
- Design and development of power and control boards requiring high safety ratings for DO-160 qualification.
Job Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following traits and skills:
- Knowledge and experience of product development lifecycles within a technology or defence-related business.
- Practical experience with high-speed digital hardware circuit design, schematic entry, component selection, and supportive design documentation.
- Experience with PCB prototyping, commissioning, and fault-finding using electronic test and measurement equipment.
- Advisory experience for PCB layout personnel.
- Working knowledge of signal & power integrity alongside EMC and grounding best practices.
- Experience in digital circuit design using FPGAs, Microcontrollers, and DDR/Flash memories.
- Proficiency with circuit design modelling and simulation tools.
- The ability to generate concise technical reports detailing design solutions, implementation rationale, and test reports.
- Familiarity with design lifecycle processes, including participation in design reviews.
- A degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, preferably in Electronics Engineering.
- Willingness to work closely with a mechanical team to create a product solution addressing all design requirements.
Desirable Skills:
- Analogue circuit design experience with op-amps, ADCs, and DAC driven reference supplies.
- RF circuit design experience including RF amplifiers, multiplexors, and signal conditioning.
- Support experience for embedded software and firmware teams.
- Peer reviewing designs and support to system architects/system integration activities.
- Working knowledge of requirements management and design within DO-254.
Additional Information:
This role is primarily office-based, with intermittent work within development labs and production areas. Occasional travel within the UK and abroad will be required for support activities.
