Rail2050 focuses in developing the 4 different types of rail services and integrating with other types of public and active travel modes.
Doubling capacity and trebling electrification in the Dublin area by delivering the Dart+ programme which will add a cross city tunnel and expand network lines.

Building service frequencies to at least hourly between cities and 2 hourly on other lines, reducing journey times and adding capacity and decarbonising through electrification and renewable energy usage.
Building regional networks on new and existing lines enhancing connectivity and supporting regional growth and accessibility.

Placing rail at the centre of a sustainable freight transport system. Supporting supply chains the economy and the environment and enhancing connectivity with the ports of Dublin, Cork, Foynes and Russlere Europort.

Light rail expansion of existing networks including new lines such as Luas in Cork.
