Project Engineer - Piping & Support Manufacturing
Sector: Nuclear New Build / Major Infrastructure
Location: Bridgwater, Somerset (Office-Based)
The Opportunity:
We are partnering with a premier engineering and construction delivery partner at the forefront of the UK's nuclear new build sector. We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer to take technical responsibility for the full manufacturing lifecycle of critical pipework and support structures.
This role serves as the central technical link between multi-national design teams, project management, and fabrication facilities, ensuring that technical challenges are expedited and resolved in line with strict project schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Integration: Act as the primary engineering liaison between the Responsible Designer (RD), Execution Design teams, and manufacturing shops to rapidly resolve technical anomalies and prevent production holds.
Tracker & Modification Management: Establish and maintain comprehensive engineering trackers to monitor design status, design holds, and change management procedures post-detailed design through to manufacturing completion.
Technical Queries (TQs): Lead the TQ process for the piping package. This includes chairing routine stakeholder alignment meetings and driving technical resolutions from responsible engineering departments.
Contract & Package Systems Management: Utilise industry-standard contract management software (CEMAR) to meticulously log, track, and close out engineering queries and resolutions.
Constructability Reviews: Provide engineering insight into constructability and manufacturing readiness, ensuring that design models translate smoothly to the physical fabrication floor.
Supply Chain & Procurement Support: Collaborate with procurement teams to provide technical evaluations for subcontractor pre-qualifications and Invitations to Tender (ITT).
Multi-Discipline Coordination: Interface directly with Quality Assurance, Bulk Inspection Services (BIS), and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to proactively address and mitigate manufacturing non-conformances.
What We're Looking For:
Proven Track Record: Solid experience working as a Project Engineer within technically complex, high-regulated, and dynamic environments - Nuclear Energy sector experience is highly advantageous.
Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of industrial pipework manufacturing, structural support fabrication, and large-scale engineering delivery.
Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to interface with, influence, and align multi-disciplinary engineering and construction teams.
Software Competency: Working knowledge of 3D design review tools (Navisworks / PDMS) and contract management systems (e.g., CEMAR, Teamcenter).
Education: Degree or equivalent higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
Regulatory Knowledge: Sound understanding of CDM Regulations and high-compliance Health, Safety & Environmental standards.
Desirable Attributes:
Experience working on complex international engineering projects.
A working knowledge of the French language is an advantage due to the cross-border nature of the project design interfaces, but it is not essential.
