Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Permanent) - Tyne & Wear (Hybrid)
Tyne & Wear-based engineering organisation seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end mechanical design on electromechanical products - from clean-sheet concept through prototype build/test and into production.

What you'll do
- Own mechanical design for rotating equipment and drivetrain-style assemblies (plus associated components as needed)
- Lead concept development, prototyping and validation
- Deliver engineering analysis (hand calcs and CAE) and design for reliability/durability
- Produce 3D CAD models and 2D drawings; support release to manufacture
- Apply DFM/DFA and DFMEA/PFMEA
- Work with manufacturing/test teams and manage suppliers
- Mentor junior engineers
What you'll need
- Strong 3D CAD + 2D drawing skills (any major CAD package)
- Engineering analysis experience (e.g., CAE tools)
- Practical experience designing for manufacture and supporting builds/testing
- Supplier management exposure
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Desirable
- Inventor/SolidWorks, MASTA/KISSsoft
- High-volume manufacturing / casting design
- Gears/transmissions/bearings or similar calculations
