Our client is currently seeking a Senior/Principal Engineer (Drainage) to join their dynamic and vibrant team in Manchester. This role involves working on exciting highway and development projects within the Highways sector, supporting and deputising for the Drainage Associate Director, and delivering projects efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, encompassing drainage design, Flood Risk Assessments, and related technical and statutory authority approvals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the financial, technical, and project management aspects of civil engineering projects.
- Oversee, mentor, and guide junior Engineers and Technicians.
- Lead all stages of drainage designs ensuring compliance with appropriate standards.
- Produce and deliver technical packages and applications.
- Guide team members in the production of Micro-drainage/Info Drainage, and Auto-CAD models and drawings.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure cohesive and comprehensive designs.
- Engage with other construction professionals for cooperative development of designs.
- Prepare and deliver technical outputs, including Drawings, Specifications, Cost Estimates, Contract Documents, and Technical Reports.
- Preparation and pricing of scopes, proposals, and deliverables for new projects.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, taking commercial responsibility for projects to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality delivery.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress against specifications, addressing any issues with contractors, clients, or project managers as necessary.
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in Civil Engineering within a consultancy environment.
- Strong knowledge and experience in surface/wastewater drainage design and approval processes.
- Proficiency in drainage technical design for major and minor projects with practical application skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of design principles and relevant guidelines such as Sewers for Adoption, Sewers for Scotland, DMRB, MCHW, and others.
- Understanding of standard engineering practices and health and safety regulations including CDM.
- Proficiency in Auto-CAD, Micro-drainage, Info-drainage, and familiarity with Civil3D and other civil engineering packages for highway and drainage infrastructure design.
- Experience in project management with a solid grasp of financial and commercial aspects of projects.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues, clients, and external design teams.
- Experience in line managing and providing technical oversight for delivery teams.
- Capability to mentor and supervise junior colleagues and work collaboratively with diverse design teams and stakeholders.
- Strong written skills in technical report preparation and fee proposal development.
