Our client, a leading provider of advanced RF and communication solutions for aerospace, defence, and security applications, is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of antenna systems and RF equipment
  • Perform structural, thermal, and vibration analysis to ensure product performance in harsh environments
  • Deliver detailed designs using CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or similar)
  • Conduct and review engineering calculations (stress, strain, fatigue, thermal performance, etc.)
  • Support environmental qualification testing (vibration, shock, thermal, IP ratings)
  • Ensure designs meet military and aerospace standards (e.g. DEF STAN, MIL-STD)
  • Collaborate with RF, electronics, systems, and manufacturing teams to optimise designs
  • Lead or support design reviews, technical governance, and documentation
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Support manufacturing, suppliers, and production teams, including DFM/DFA activities
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities

Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven experience in a senior mechanical engineering role within defence, aerospace, or complex product environments
  • Strong background in mechanical design and analysis
  • Experience with FEA tools (e.g. Ansys, Nastran, Abaqus)
  • Knowledge of environmental and structural requirements for ruggedised equipment
  • Experience delivering projects through the full product lifecycle
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, casting, composites, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience with RF/antenna systems or electronic enclosures
  • Knowledge of IP sealing, EMC shielding, or thermal management
  • Experience working to defence/aerospace standards
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Experience in a regulated engineering environment
  • Security clearance (SC/DV)
