Our client, a leading company in the rail sector, is currently seeking two Senior Quantity Surveyors to join their team on an outside IR35 contract basis. These positions are based onsite in Newport our days a week, providing an exciting opportunity to work on a complex rail systems programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing post-contract commercial support for designated packages of work, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within cost and time constraints
  • Assisting with the commercial management of various work packages, including Design, Installation, Test & Commission, Materials, Telecoms, Electrification, Power, Plant, Professional Services, Civil Engineering, and Permanent Way
  • Managing work package change control and cost management
  • Providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering teams
  • Monitoring and actively managing and mitigating work package risks
  • Maintaining auditable records for responsible work packages in line with contractual requirements
  • Collaborating with key partners, including finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients

Job Requirements:

  • Substantial experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a contractor-side project environment, ideally within the rail, engineering, defence, construction, or IT sectors
  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or working towards a professional qualification (RICS, IACCM or similar)
  • Proven ability to manage both direct labour and subcontract costs
  • Experience in estimating change/variations using various methods
  • Competence in forecasting costs, measuring the cost of work complete, and articulating any variances
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage expectations
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Good financial and commercial acumen
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision in cost or time-critical conditions
  • Proficient contractual knowledge and experience
