Our client, a dynamic consultancy in the cross-sector engineering industry, is currently seeking to appoint a Structural Engineer. This permanent role offers a fantastic opportunity to work on various building and infrastructure projects, collaborating closely with Project Managers and senior staff. The position is designed to support your progression toward a professional qualification in IStructE or ICE.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Knowledge & Application

  • Undertake structural analysis and design across a variety of projects involving steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
  • Apply engineering principles and professional judgement to solve technical challenges, producing calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Develop safe, practical, sustainable, and cost-effective design solutions, considering buildability and whole-life performance.
  • Use industry-standard software such as Masterseries, Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, or similar (Masterseries preferred).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including Eurocodes and the Building Safety Act 2022.

Leadership & Development

  • Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians as appropriate.
  • Actively develop skills aligned with IStructE/ICE professional development pathways.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, quality, and delivery methods.
  • Take on increasing responsibility in project delivery as experience develops.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Liaise effectively with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Delivery & Responsibility

  • Take ownership of defined design packages, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, programme, budget, and quality standards.
  • Support Project Managers in coordinating project activities and meeting client requirements.
  • Contribute to technical reports, design reviews, and project documentation.
  • Manage time and resources effectively to support project profitability.

Professional Commitment

  • Work in accordance with relevant standards, codes, company procedures, and quality systems.
  • Demonstrate awareness of health, safety, wellbeing, risk management, and environmental considerations.
  • Apply sustainable engineering principles in all aspects of design and delivery.
  • Actively pursue professional qualification (IStructE/ICE) and maintain continuous professional development (CPD).

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in structural analysis and design across common materials.
  • Familiarity with structural design software such as Masterseries, Tekla, Robot, ETABS.
  • Knowledge of UK design standards, including Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and organisational abilities.
