Engineering Manager/Head of Technology - Structural (Offshore / Renewable Energy)

Location: Portugal (Viana do Castelo)
Salary: Up to €100,000 (dependent on experience)

Overview
Matchtech is supporting our client in recruiting a Engineering Manager - Structural to lead the delivery, quality, and technical integrity of structural engineering activities for advanced offshore and floating platform projects.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing a high-performing engineering team, driving technical excellence, and ensuring the successful execution of complex structural analysis and design programmes in a dynamic, innovation led environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the structural engineering function, ensuring delivery to scope, schedule and quality expectations
  • Oversee structural analysis and design activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications
  • Provide technical leadership across structural engineering, including FEA modelling and advanced analysis
  • Act as the technical focal point for all structural matters internally and with external partners, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy, consistency and completeness
  • Drive continuous improvement of methodologies, tools and engineering practices
  • Ensure effective integration of structural design within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Identify and manage technical risks, supporting overall project risk management strategies
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a high performance team culture
  • Support stakeholder engagement, including clients, contractors and regulatory bodies
  • Stay at the forefront of industry developments, emerging technologies and best practice



Professional Experience required:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on offshore or marine structures
  • Proven track record delivering complex engineering projects
  • Experience in offshore wind or renewable energy projects is highly desirable



Technical Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design, including:
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Dynamic loading and fatigue analysis
  • Proficiency in engineering software (such as ANSYS, SACS, STAAD Pro)
  • Familiarity with tools such as FEMAP or SESAM
  • Programming capability (for example Python or MATLAB) is advantageous
  • Understanding of offshore materials, fabrication and construction methods
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards and regulations



Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related field
  • Specialisation in offshore structures, wind engineering, or renewable energy is advantageous
