A Contract Outside IR35
Hyrbrid working - Miniumum 3 on site
Our client, a key player in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a System Requirements Engineer for a critical contract position. This role involves owning the capture, quality, and traceability of requirements at both system and equipment levels for the fuel cell system, acting as a standard-bearer for requirements engineering best practices across the engineering organisation. This is a pivotal position supporting the delivery of certified, zero-emission aircraft propulsion systems.
Responsibilities:
- Elicit, derive, and author requirements at aircraft-interface, system, and equipment levels, working from certification basis, customer, safety, and architectural inputs.
- Write and maintain requirements to defined quality criteria (singular, unambiguous, verifiable, traceable), applying structured authoring patterns and house standards.
- Own end-to-end requirements traceability across system and equipment boundaries, including decomposition and derivation rationale; ensure derived requirements are captured and fed to Systems Safety in line with ARP4754B.
- Lead requirements validation; correctness and completeness reviews, validation matrices, and rationale capture, producing the validation evidence required by the development assurance plan.
- Author equipment and item-level specifications, including white-box controller requirements; control function definition, design constraint derivation, and allocation across hardware and software boundaries in coordination with downstream teams.
- Capture and manage interface requirements in coordination with system architects and ICD owners.
- Flow requirements down to suppliers through equipment specifications; review supplier compliance responses and maintain clause-level traceability.
- Perform impact analysis of requirement changes through trace links; support change control under configuration management.
- Act as requirements quality gatekeeper; check and review requirements authored by others, coach engineers across departments on best practice, and monitor requirement set health (coverage, TBD/TBC burn-down, orphaned and suspect links).
- Support technical reviews and certification activities, ensuring development assurance objectives are met.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electronic, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience in systems or requirements engineering within the aerospace sector, with direct involvement in aviation certification programmes.
- Demonstrated experience in aircraft systems development under CS-23, CS-25, CS-E, or equivalent regulatory frameworks.
- Deep applied experience of requirements processes under ARP4754B is essential, covering capture, validation, and traceability objectives.
- Working knowledge of ARP4761/A, DO-178C, and DO-254, sufficient to allocate requirements across hardware and software boundaries and handle safety-derived requirements correctly.
- Demonstrated command of requirements quality frameworks and authoring patterns (INCOSE Guide to Writing Requirements, EARS, ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148 or equivalent).
- Proven experience authoring equipment and item-level specifications, including white-box controller requirements.
- Experience of supplier requirements flow-down and compliance review.
- Familiarity with DO-160G advantageous (environmental clauses within equipment specifications).
- Proficiency with Polarion or equivalent requirements management tools essential; experience with work-item configuration, link roles, and controlled exports advantageous.
- Experience working on low-maturity or new product introduction programmes preferred.
- Background in certified or in-certification propulsion, power, or flight control systems desirable.
- Experience with electric propulsion, fuel cell, or eVTOL systems considered an asset.
- Proven ability to work effectively in small, high-performance engineering teams and to mentor others on requirements and development assurance best practice.
