Senior Electrical Engineer
Our client, a leading player in the distribution and transmission sector, is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join their Major Projects team. This permanent role offers a chance to work on high-impact electrical projects, mentor others, and drive strategic outcomes across safety, commercial, and technical domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of complex electrical distribution system projects, dealing with commercial and technical issues, and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Guide the development of junior Project Engineers and team members, supporting their coaching and training needs.
- Produce reports and communicate progress, managing projects to time, cost, and quality with a focus on safety.
- Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements related to construction works.
- Manage and operate within framework contracts to enable the delivery of complex projects.
- Develop processes and documentation at the section level.
Key Competencies:
- Knowledge of engineering standards, principles, and practices in electrical system distribution infrastructure.
- Understanding of safety legislation and procedures, specifically the Health & Safety at Work Act, Electrical at Work Regulations, and more.
- Experience managing and administering engineering and construction contracts related to complex projects.
- Ability to project manage high-complexity critical infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
- Capability to lead and manage complex multi-disciplinary projects, including EHV substations.
- Competency in monitoring and maintaining project delivery timelines, with accurate progress and status reporting.
- Proficiency in coaching and supporting team members to develop their skills and knowledge.
- Skill in mentoring and developing team members based on experience.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum HNC in electrical engineering or equivalent STEM subject.
- Experience in electrical systems distribution infrastructure, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects at voltages up to and including 132kV.
- Familiarity with project governance and control processes, and commercial awareness.
- Proven ability to meet time, cost, quality, and safety standards for asset development and delivery plans.
- Exceptional understanding and management of safety critical issues.
- Experience in coaching and supporting individuals and groups of colleagues.
- Capability to mentor and develop team members using knowledge and experience.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in a relevant STEM subject.
- Project management qualifications (APM/Prince).
- NEBOSH or equivalent formal qualification in safety management.
- Experience with critical national infrastructure projects, including substations, overhead line, cable systems, battery energy storage systems, and generation technologies.
