Role details:
We are looking for an IT Systems Engineer to support our defence client on a contract basis. The role will support, maintain, and enhance enterprise infrastructure, cloud services, and platform technologies, contributing to secure and reliable technology services across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the administration and operation of cloud and on-premises infrastructure environments.
- Maintain Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
- Assist with the deployment, configuration, and support of Azure cloud services.
- Support virtualisation platforms and enterprise hosting environments.
- Assist in the administration of Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms.
- Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity.
- Support incident, problem, and service request management activities.
- Assist with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
- Implement and support infrastructure changes in accordance with organisational standards.
- Contribute to automation and Infrastructure as Code initiatives.
- Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Work with senior engineers to resolve technical issues and improve service reliability.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in IT support, IT infrastructure, and administration.
- Knowledge of VMware and other virtualisation technologies.
- Understanding of cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms.
- Proficiency in maintaining Windows Server and Linux environments.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Basic knowledge of security principles and access management.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative technical team.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900).
- Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
- CompTIA Network+ or Server+.
- Linux Essentials or equivalent certification.
- Exposure to Kubernetes, OpenShift, or container technologies such as Docker.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Experience working in hybrid cloud environments.
- Exposure to automation and DevOps practices.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Azure Monitor.
