Role details:
We are looking for an IT Systems Engineer to support our defence client on a contract basis. The role will support, maintain, and enhance enterprise infrastructure, cloud services, and platform technologies, contributing to secure and reliable technology services across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the administration and operation of cloud and on-premises infrastructure environments.
  • Maintain Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, and support of Azure cloud services.
  • Support virtualisation platforms and enterprise hosting environments.
  • Assist in the administration of Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity.
  • Support incident, problem, and service request management activities.
  • Assist with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
  • Implement and support infrastructure changes in accordance with organisational standards.
  • Contribute to automation and Infrastructure as Code initiatives.
  • Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Work with senior engineers to resolve technical issues and improve service reliability.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in IT support, IT infrastructure, and administration.
  • Knowledge of VMware and other virtualisation technologies.
  • Understanding of cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms.
  • Proficiency in maintaining Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Basic knowledge of security principles and access management.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative technical team.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900).
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • CompTIA Network+ or Server+.
  • Linux Essentials or equivalent certification.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, OpenShift, or container technologies such as Docker.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Experience working in hybrid cloud environments.
  • Exposure to automation and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Azure Monitor.
