Looking for a hands-on role with long-term career prospects?
Sunseeker International is recruiting GRP Laminating Trainees to join its Portland site. No previous laminating experience is required. Instead, we're looking for reliable, hardworking individuals who enjoy practical work and want to learn a specialist trade.
You'll begin with a four-week classroom-based training programme, delivered by experienced Sunseeker Trade Specialists, giving you the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a GRP Laminator role.
Following successful completion of the training programme, you'll join the production team and play a key role in building world-class luxury yachts.
What You'll Be Doing
As a GRP Laminator, you'll be involved in manufacturing high-quality yacht components using a range of composite laminating techniques, including:
- Manual wet lay laminating
- Infusion processes
- Preparing and releasing moulds of various sizes
- Working from production specifications and quality standards
- Supporting production targets as part of a collaborative team
- Maintaining Sunseeker's exceptional standards of craftsmanship and quality
What Is GRP Laminating?
GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) composite lamination involves combining layers of fibreglass to create strong, lightweight and durable components used throughout Sunseeker yachts.
This is a physical, hands-on role and can be demanding at times. Duties may involve:
- Prolonged periods of standing
- Manual handling activities
- Reaching, bending, twisting and lifting
- Working at height on occasion
- Working within confined spaces when required
GRP materials have a strong, distinctive smell and require strict safety controls. Full PPE is provided, and all work is completed in line with established health and safety procedures.
Training Programme
- Duration: 4 weeks
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:15pm
- Delivered by experienced Sunseeker Trade Specialists
- Designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in GRP laminating

Working Hours
Monday to Friday 7:00am to 3:15pm
Pay Rates
Accrued Holiday
Hourly rate plus 30 days' holiday paid separately
£12.71 per hour starting rate | £13.71 per hour after 12 weeks | £14.42 per hour after 26 weeks*
Advanced Holiday
Holiday pay included within weekly pay
£14.37 per hour starting rate | £15.50 per hour after 12 weeks | £16.30 per hour after 26 weeks*
* Progression subject to attendance, timekeeping and quality standards being achieved.
What We're Looking For
No previous laminating experience is necessary.
We'd like to hear from candidates who:
- Enjoy practical, hands-on work
- Have experience in physically demanding environments
- Come from manufacturing, production, industrial, warehousing, construction, hospitality or similar backgrounds
- Can reliably commit to a 7:00am Monday to Friday start
- Are looking for long-term employment and career progression
- Have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Enjoy working as part of a team

Recruitment Process

Suitable candidates will then be invited to attend an assessment morning, which includes:
- Introduction to Sunseeker and the training programme
- Shipyard tour
- Practical laminating exercise
- One-to-one interview with Sunseeker representatives
- Right-to-work checks
- Tea and coffee provided
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process will be invited to join a future intake.
