Our client, a prominent entity in the nuclear sector, is currently seeking an experienced FEED Area Engineering Manager for a contract role based in Warrington, with hybrid working arrangements and occasional site visits to Sellafield.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through FEED activities across multiple projects.
  • Define and mature engineering scope from initial concept through Gate 2.
  • Develop engineering strategies aligned to programme and business objectives.
  • Ensure engineering solutions are safe, legally compliant, proportionate and fit for purpose.
  • Lead engineering integration across all engineering disciplines.

Project Definition:


Lead the engineering activities required to develop projects including:

  • Scope definition
  • Requirements management
  • Functional specification development
  • Engineering option development
  • Value Management
  • Optioneering
  • Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessments
  • Engineering substantiation
  • Delivery strategy development


Develop projects to the level of maturity required for transition into detailed design and project delivery, reflecting the Gate 0-2 mobilisation activities identified in the client role specification.

Stakeholder Management:


Work collaboratively with:

  • Sellafield Programme teams
  • Project Engineering Managers
  • Safety Case teams
  • Operations
  • Construction
  • Commissioning
  • Technical Authorities
  • Subject Matter Experts


Facilitate engineering decision-making and build consensus around preferred technical solutions.

Job Requirements:

Essential Experience:

  • Significant engineering leadership experience within a highly regulated industry.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience delivering Front End Engineering Design (FEED), concept, feasibility, appraisal, or optioneering phases of major capital projects.
  • Experience developing engineering requirements and translating them into deliverable engineering solutions.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance and design assurance.
  • Experience managing engineering scope, cost, schedule, and technical risk.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior technical and programme stakeholders.
  • Experience working within integrated engineering teams.

Desirable Experience:

  • Sellafield experience.
  • Nuclear industry experience.
  • Systems Engineering.
  • Requirements Management.
  • Value Management facilitation.
  • Technology Readiness Assessment.
  • CDM Principal Designer experience.
  • Safety Case development.
  • NEC contract awareness.
  • Experience supporting projects through Gate 0-2.

Qualifications


Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards).
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution.


Desirable:

  • INCOSE ASEP/CSEP.
  • Requirements Management certification.
  • Value Management qualification.
