Our client, a prominent organisation in the public sector, is seeking a diligent Highway Inspector to join their team on a contract basis. This role involves carrying out essential safety inspections of highways, managing minor repairs, and responding to service requests from residents. Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake routine safety inspections of the highway
- Inspect work by contractors and statutory undertakers, ensuring quality and compliance with specifications
- Programme and conduct minor surveys and census work
- Utilise available equipment for inspection, measurement, or recording purposes
- Maintain knowledge on construction methods, materials, and legislative matters
- Work out of hours for site inspection, recording, and supervision
- Respond to service requests from residents
- Perform pre and post highway licence inspections
- Liaise with contractors and statutory undertakers on site
- Address complaints and queries from the public in accordance with the Customer Response Management system
Job Requirements:
- Experience in highway inspection and maintenance
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials
- Understanding of relevant legislative matters
- Ability to work outside regular hours when needed
- Proficiency in using inspection and measurement equipment
- Strong communication skills for liaising with contractors and resolving public complaints
- Capability to draft reports and correspondence
- Attention to detail in conducting inspections and surveys
Additional Responsibilities:
- Produce preliminary designs for minor schemes
- Inspect work by statutory undertakers for quality and compliance
- Support the Maintenance Manager in fostering a quality management and customer care approach
- Supervise minor maintenance contracts and issue works orders
- Prepare estimates, reports, and manage engineering duties such as material testing
- Oversee the annual surface dressing programme and site investigation reports
- Supervise all stages of relevant engineering works
- Assist in staff induction and participate in recruitment processes
