Systems Engineer - Modelling & Simulation

Our client, a small defence engineering consultancy in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a skilled professional in Modelling & Simulation for a contract role in Reading.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of Modelling & Simulation (M&S) projects from concept through to deployment
  • Design and develop simulation architectures, synthetic environments, and integrated simulation capabilities
  • Enable interoperability between simulation systems, models, and wider technical ecosystems
  • Support the integration of M&S solutions with Digital Engineering, Digital Twin, Digital Thread, and MBSE environments
  • Contribute to Test & Evaluation, experimentation, and simulation-based testing activities
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and assurance across client engagements
  • Produce technical documentation, solution designs, and delivery reports
  • Manage technical risks and ensure solutions are delivered in line with best practice and governance requirements
  • Support capability development, innovation initiatives, and business growth activities

Job Requirements:

Essential Experience:

  • Significant experience in Modelling & Simulation, Synthetic Environments, or Simulation-Based Capability delivery
  • Experience delivering M&S solutions within Defence or other complex engineering environments
  • Strong understanding of simulation architectures, interoperability, and systems integration
  • Experience developing, integrating, and managing simulation models and environments
  • Knowledge of Verification, Validation & Accreditation (VV&A) principles
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Engineering, and Digital Twin concepts
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and technical communication skills
  • Ability to lead technical delivery whilst providing hands-on expertise when required

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working with UK Defence, Government, or highly regulated organisations
  • Experience operating within secure environments
  • Professional qualifications or formal training in Modelling & Simulation, Systems Engineering, Operational Analysis, or a related discipline
