Our client, a local authority supporting economic regeneration across Warwickshire, is seeking a Senior Development Management Engineer for a contract role within its Highways Development Management Team. The position will provide specialist highway and transportation advice on planning applications, development control and new road adoption schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing a varied caseload of major, medium and smaller-scale development proposals
  • Providing statutory highway advice to Local Planning Authorities
  • Reviewing planning applications, proposed highway layouts and transport-related submissions
  • Providing pre-application advice to developers and agents
  • Leading on technical approvals and inspections for new roads associated with developments
  • Advising on local plan allocations and supporting public inquiries where required
  • Working closely with planning teams, developers, agents, internal colleagues, Members, MPs and members of the public
  • Attending site visits, team meetings and planning committees, including occasional out-of-hours meetings

Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience in development management, development control or highway development management
  • Strong knowledge of transportation, transport planning and highway matters relating to new developments
  • Understanding of planning processes, highway consultations and technical approvals
  • Ability to manage a large and varied workload while meeting differing deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence liaising with Local Planning Authorities, developers, agents and a range of public and professional stakeholders
  • Ability to travel effectively across Warwickshire for site visits and attend office-based meetings as required
  • Availability to work 37 hours per week, including occasional attendance at planning committees outside normal office hours
