Freelance Site / Section Engineer (Major Structures & Bridges)

Rate: £480 - £500 per day (Inside IR35)

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site / Section Engineer to support the delivery of a major infrastructure project involving large-scale structures and bridge works.
This is an excellent opportunity for a contractor with a proven background in major civil engineering projects, capable of managing site engineering activities, setting out, quality assurance, and coordinating construction works safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting out and surveying for structures and bridge works.
- Managing day-to-day engineering activities on site.
- Ensuring works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications, and programme requirements.
- Producing and maintaining QA documentation, ITPs, and as-built records.
- Managing technical queries and liaising with design teams.
- Monitoring subcontractor performance and site progress.
- Supporting temporary works, permits, and safe systems of work.
- Driving high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Section Engineer on major infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience delivering major structures, bridges, reinforced concrete, and heavy civils works.
- Experience working on large-scale projects within highways, rail, utilities, energy, or similar sectors.
- Strong setting out and surveying capability.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- SMSTS
- CSCS Card
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Temporary Works experience (desirable)
- First Aid qualification (desirable)

We are looking for a self-sufficient freelance engineer with a strong track record on major construction projects, particularly structures and bridge packages. The successful candidate will be able to hit the ground running and contribute immediately to project delivery.
Rate: £480 - £500 per day (Inside IR35)
Duration: Initial 3-month contract with potential extension.
