Our client, a leading automotive engineering organisation specialising in propulsion, driveline and energy systems, is seeking a Prototype Build Technician for a contract role in Leamington Spa. The position will support prototype transmission builds and driveline testing projects, contributing to the development and production of innovative automotive systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stripping and building prototype transmissions in accordance with build manuals and engineering guidance
- Identifying build issues and manufacturing faults, implementing improvements to support future production phases
- Stripping and inspecting unfamiliar transmission systems with limited instruction
- Applying a sound understanding of transmission types, functions and components
- Carrying out instrumentation and modifications to test units as requested by the engineering team
- Reporting build issues to the relevant engineer and contributing to subsequent 8D investigations
- Following storage and parts-picking processes accurately
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the workshop and production facilities
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience assembling complex systems within a prototype build or manufacturing environment
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and validate the quality of manufactured parts
- Experience using accurate measurement techniques, including manual measurement or CMM equipment
- Fabrication and modification experience using equipment such as lathes, milling machines, pillar drills and welders
- Good mechanical understanding of prototype build and production processes
- Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting skills, supported by a logical and methodical approach
- Self-motivated, resilient and able to work flexibly to meet project deadlines
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently tackle unfamiliar tasks with limited supervision
