A leading highways consultancy is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer (Contract) to support a major HS2 route package in Birmingham. This is a Geotechnical Construction Phase Support (CPS) role, co-located with the wider project team, supporting the contractor/client on site, handling live geotechnical issues and validating design assumptions.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) - Secondary Assurance/Check
- Review ITPs and recommend witnessing requirements for contractor testing/inspections
- Witness site inspections/testing and review samples of construction records
- Maintain auditable site observation reports and record reviews
Field Change Requests (FCRs) - Technical Support
- Review/respond to site technical queries
- Follow internal assurance processes for design changes
- Flag when external assurance is required for changes
Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Respond to NCRs or coordinate design team support
- Flag when external assurance is required for NCR solutions
Instrumentation and Monitoring (I&M)
- Analyse/interpret monitoring data and provide technical input
- Attend regular monitoring meetings
- Provide mitigation recommendations for trigger breaches/unexpected trends
Earthworks & Geotechnical Data Logging
- Slope geological inspections/mapping (cuts, bulk excavations)
- Formation inspections for multiple structure types
Geotechnical Feedback Reports (GFR)
- Support production/checking of feedback reports
- Support junior staff as required
Requirements
- Geotechnical engineering experience in highways / major infrastructure
- Strong understanding of geotechnical design and CPS delivery
- Confident with geotechnical data interpretation/analysis
- Strong stakeholder communication and problem-solving
- Able to be on site in Birmingham 3+ days/week
- Relevant engineering degree (or equivalent)
