Due to the increased workload, our client are seeking to recruit a Principal Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will undertake and oversee the production of Civil Highways design, leading a dedicated Highways design team.

The Job

As a multi-disciplined consultant, they have a diverse portfolio of confirmed works and are currently working on several high-profile schemes in Wales including the £1.9billion, 25 years, Wales & Borders rail network, and South Wales Metro projects. Mumbles Coastal Protection Scheme in Swansea, WelTag Assessments, and Active Travel Schemes.

The Role

Being an experienced Principal Civil Engineer, you'll have the chance to focus on the parts of your role you most enjoy. In a typical week you will:

  • Develop effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief
  • Undertake a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Supervise, mentor and develop team members from senior engineers, through to graduate engineers and technicians
  • Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees
  • Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.

  • Undertake site supervision duties of contractors and when required
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in the development
  • Prepare and check feasibility studies, appraisal/assessment reports and other written documents
  • Development of engineering solutions and presents engineering options
  • Complete performance appraisals with direct reports and provide learning and development opportunities where possible

We want to hear from you if:

  • You can demonstrate high-level experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
  • You can demonstrate an ability to produce or oversee the production of technicallysound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and clientrequirements
  • You have experience in managing project-related tasks associated with health, safety andwelfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • You are experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
  • Have a Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
  • You have Chartered or Incorporated status held with an appropriate professional body
  • You know technical governance procedures and how they are applied within aconsulting engineering environment
  • Are an accredited training manager with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Supervising Civil Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers
  • You are capable of acting as engineering lead or engineering day-to-day main contact for aa project where required under the terms of the commission
